Custodians of the Terroir of Luján de Cuyo
We’re very excited to introduce the latest producer to join the Condor family. We’ve long admired Casarena and their single-minded focus on the important Mendoza sub-region of Lujan de Cuyo so when we got the opportunity to represent them in the UK, we seized it immediately. We’re confident that you’ll love their wines as much as we do!
‘Condor are the perfect fit to showcase the excellence of Luján de Cuyo’s terroir and the finesse of its wines.’
Martin Perez Cambet, Casarena Commercial Director
The Region
Located just south of Mendoza City, Luján de Cuyo was the first region to be recognised as an appellation in 1993. In the rain shadow of the Andes, viticulture is only made possible here by the Mendoza River bringing meltwater to the desert-like conditions. The high-altitude vineyards exploit an extended growing season (due to diurnal temperature variation) and stressed vines (due to poor, rocky soils) to produce bold, intensely flavoured wines.

The Winery
Built in 1937 and sympathetically renovated in 2008, the Casarena winery sits in the heart of Perdriel. Single vineyard specialists, they produce a range of varietal and blended wines from four vineyards across Perdriel, Agrelo and Alto Agrelo. The certified sustainable vineyards are a tribute the diversity of the area. Each enjoys different elevation, sun orientation and soil composition allowing winemaker Martina Galeano to create markedly different profiles within a varietal to showcase the unique expression of each vineyard.
‘Showing how diverse Luján de Cuyo is, and can be, is what we work for every day.’
Martina Galeano, Casarena Winemaker

AGRELO, LUJÁN DE CUYO, MENDOZA
Brilliant purple colour with red hues; profound varietal expression on the nose with rich red and black fruits alongside capsicum; smooth, balanced and rich on the palate, with expansive flavours complemented by tobacco and spice. Powerful and structured but all in balance.
NAOKI

AGRELO, LUJÁN DE CUYO, MENDOZA
Bright carmine red colour with topaz hues; wonderful varietal expression on the nose with rich red and black fruits with a mineral and herbal component typical of the Naoki vineyard; impeccably smooth on the palate with svelte tannins and a noticeable freshness with a fine spine of acidity here cutting through the rich core of powerful fruit. Expressive and complex.
